About us
ĒTHĘR ensemble is a musical and artistic project created by José Ángel Babiano in 2019 and made up of artists (former students and teachers) who met at Musikene, Donostia-San Sebastián. José Ángel is joined in directing the project by Garazi Navas (accordion) and Pau Torres (saxophones).
ĒTHĘR's artistic process encompasses interpretation, transcription and own creation, based on a delicate and careful mix between improvisation and composition as a creative engine, which makes his music have a great capacity for adaptation and invention, thus embracing all kinds of music, from Classical, Contemporary and New Creation Music, Jazz and Freejazz, Free Improvisation, Electronic, Rock, Pop, Metal, Popular and Folk Music, world music, etc.
All this endows ĒTHĘR with a unique sound and artistic identity, extensive aesthetic versatility and great musical sensitivity. Crystallizing everything in a strong and very expressive, unpredictable, stimulating and energetic stage presence.
Publications, awards and fests
Among all the extensive and diverse production of ĒTHĘR, it is worth noting:
1 0 1, album recorded and produced by Juanan Ros, released and distributed by the prestigious Orpheus Classical label. 1 0 1 contains the entire Suite 1 0 1, composed by Babiano and awarded by the Department of Culture, Education and Language Policy of the Basque Government. An absolutely differential work, a revolution within the concept of Chamber Music. A total work of art, open and capable of being shown in all kinds of festivals of all kinds of styles. From classical or contemporary to jazz, electronic or experimental, as well as rock and popular music cycles.
Etherheim, part of this suite, and awarded as the best video clip of the year 2022 by Musika Bulegoak.
Regarding participation in events, in its short career, Ether has participated in a variety of events and festivals such as Zarata Fest (experimental, contemporary, metal), Jazzaldia (jazz), Aurrera Fest (classical), Quincena Musical de San Sebastián, Festival Diacronías (Madrid, Contemporary), Eivissa Classica (Ibiza, Classical) etc. As well as in numerous scenarios of the Basque territory.
